To Blog or to Twitter

Busy and very productive week - Interesting piece on Radio 4 as I drove in to office on Monday - is blogging dying and/or are users switching to things like twitter.
I now use twitter once a day and blog less often. Piece was on at 8.40 am

I have said before I was an early adapter and blogged 2000 - 2002 and switched it all off in end - I think this time there is a more active community developing and web2 and cloud computing makes the experience more fun and productive.

It's horses for courses. Both useful in different ways.

I've been thinking about the same sort of thing recently and have tried to use combine their use - Twitter to get quick response, blog to archive and develop discussion. See for example Ask Twitter: Mobile phones in education and Ask Twitter 2: Information Overload

I see the two as being very different. twitter is more in the moment for me. I do Twitter links to blog posts - mine and others. I also Twitter more little items and even some real time (sort of) conversation. But blogging is for communicating more informatation and for posting things that have more lasting worth. Between 50 and 60% of the traffic to my blog is from search engines. I see that as long term help for people.
